Compton does his thing; survives, advances

Erik Compton was one of 19 to successfully navigate the second stage of Q School at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
The two-time heart transplant recipient settled for 165th on the money list in his rookie season on the PGA TOUR this year. He completed the 72-hole, everything-to-gain grind this week in 8-under-par 68-73-66-69=276 to advance to the final stage. Matt Fast was this site's medalist at 13-under 271, three strokes lower than a trio of runners-up, including Scott Sterling (274). Other notables that finished the number include Shane Bertsch (275), Chad Collins (276), Fabian Gomez (276), Tim Wilkinson (277), Richard S. Johnson (278), Glen Day (278), Len Mattiace (278), Gavin Coles (278) and Scott Langley (279).
