Samuels does it all to lift Storm

Tampa star scores 4 TDs in victory over Philadelphia

TAMPA, Fla. - Lawrence Samuels caught nine passes for 142 yards and made a key defensive play late in the fourth quarter to help the Tampa Bay Storm edge the Philadelphia Soul, 40-37.

After kicker Mike Black missed a field goal in the final minute of regulation that would have given Tampa Bay a six-point advantage, Philadelphia quarterback Nick Browder led a drive down to the Storm 12-yard line.

With 20 seconds remaining, Browder fumbled the ball after it hit the elbow of fullback Travis McDonald. Samuels, who intercepted Browder at the start of the fourth quarter, recovered the fumble to seal the victory.

Samuels, who was named Offensive Player of the Game and Ironman, grabbed a 27-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left in the first half to give the Storm a 20-10 lead.

Freddie Solomon accounted for three touchdowns and quarterback Shane Stafford finished with 233 passing yards and three scores for Tampa Bay (2-2), which snapped a two-game losing skid.

Sean Scott and Tyronne Jones both scored in the fourth quarter for the Soul after the Storm had taken a 40-24 lead.

Browder finished with 232 yards and four touchdown passes, but completed just 17-of-32 attempts.

Derin Graham caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for Philadelphia (1-3), which has dropped its three games this season by a combined 15 points.
