"Some NBA officials" believe the Bucks have made a verbal five-year, $40 million contract offer to J.J. Redick.
Redick is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and if the team is really willing to pony up this kind of cash to retain the sharpshooter, we seriously have to evaluate GM John Hammond's long-term strategy. It's bad enough the Bucks gave up Tobias Harris in the Redick trade, but to retain him on a five-year contract worth $8M annually is a sizable commitment. It's worth noting that Brandon Jennings will be a restricted free agent after the season while Monta Ellis holds an $11M player option.
