Montreal - Former NHL enforcer Donald Brashear has signed a one-fight contract with Montreal MMA promotion Ringside MMA.

MMA Diehards first reported the news on Friday.

Ringside MMA's next event is June 4 in Quebec City, but it is unclear whether or not Brashear will be competing on that card. What is also unclear at this time is how much MMA training the 39-year-old has under his belt.

Brashear played in the NHL from 1993-2010 for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. During his time in the league, he was considered one of the toughest players on the ice, racking up 2,634 penalty minutes, the 15th-highest total in league history.

Brashear currently plays in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH). In March, he was charged with assault after an alleged attack on a fan after he was involved in a brawl during that night's game. Brashear was suspended for five games by the league and the assault case is still pending.

There is speculation that the pending assault case could lead to the Quebec athletic commission, Le Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, denying Brashear a fight license. He has yet to apply for one as of Friday.
