Batista to start for Cards with rain coming
Miguel Batista - R - St Louis Cardinals
April 23, 2011 - 2:20 PM ET

With rain threatening to delay Friday's game, the Cardinals have decided to start reliever Miguel Batista instead of Kyle McClellan.

Manager Tony La Russa clearly doesn't want reliever-turned-starter McClellan getting warmed up and start the game only to be shut down early on. McClellan is expected to enter the game after the expected rain delay, assuming the game resumes. If it doesn't, he'll likely start Saturday, with Chris Carpenter going Sunday. Edinson Volquez is still scheduled to start Friday for the Reds.
