Isaiah Thomas was the player of the game for the Kings in their 121-112 win over the Suns on Friday, scoring 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting (4-of-5 3PTs, 7-of-7 FTs) with five rebounds, six assists and a career-high five steals, but he was benched for most of the fourth quarter for Toney Douglas.
Keith Smart said some incomprehensible statement about Douglas being a better on-ball defender, which is ridiculous because Thomas gives up very little penetration as a plus-defender on the ball. Douglas went 0-for-3 with just one rebound and two assists to his name in his 13 minutes, while Kings TV guys Grant Napear and Jerry Reynolds repeatedly, almost mockingly, wondered aloud when IT would get in the game. At this point it's pretty clear the Maloof family hired Smart to purposely tank their season.
