Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has confirmed that Joe Nathan will open the season as the team's closer.
He wasn't exactly adamant about it, saying, "I would imagine we'll start out probably something like that." Still, it sure sounds like that's the way things will shake out. Nathan has struggled this spring and Matt Capps has been terrific, but Gardenhire likes the way Nathan has looked even if the results haven't been there. "We like what he's doing," the manager said. "I think the big thing is to see how he does early in the season and go from there." Gardy did add that he's not sure Nathan can handle throwing 3-4 days in a row initially, so Capps does figure to see the occasional save chance.
