Smith led off the second inning by taking Mets starter David Peterson deep before capping off his second career multi-homer performance with an eighth-inning blast off veteran reliever Adam Ottavino. He finished with three hits in this one, spearheading the Dodgers’ 10-run, 16-hit offensive explosion at Citi Field against a reeling Mets squad. The 29-year-old fantasy stalwart has homered four times in his last five contests and is up to nine round-trippers through 49 contests.
Junior Caminero

TB Third Baseman #13

Rays top prospect Junior Caminero will miss 4-6 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 left quad strain.

Oof. It’s a tough break for the Rays — and for fantasy managers who had been stashing Caminero hoping for an imminent promotion to the big leagues. The 20-year-old infielder won’t return to game action for at least a month and probably won’t be an option to join the Rays until around the All-Star break at the earliest.
Corey Seager

TEX Shortstop #5

Corey Seager homered for the third consecutive contest on Wednesday, and eighth time over his last eight games, powering the Rangers to a 6-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Seager remained sizzling-hot at the dish on Wednesday afternoon at Globe Life Field in a rematch of last year’s Fall Classic, taking Arizona starter Ryne Nelson out to right field in the fifth inning for a two-run blast. It was his 13th round-tripper of the season and lone hit in three at-bats in this one, although he did manage to draw a free pass as well. The 30-year-old fantasy superstar has gone deep a whopping eight times over his last eight games since May 19. He’s raised his full-season OPS from .681 to .828 during that span. Unreal.
Corbin Carroll

ARI Center Fielder #7

Corbin Carroll went 3-for-5 with a double on Wednesday in the Diamondbacks’ loss at the hands of the Rangers.

It’s been an unexpected struggle this season for Carroll as Wednesday’s three-hit effort was his first of the year and just his ninth multi-hit performance through 52 games. To put that in context, he recorded 47 games last year with at least two hits across 155 contests. The 23-year-old holds a calamitous .567 OPS with two homers and nine steals so far, and the lack of consistent hard contact across his quality of contact metrics doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence that he’ll eventually turn things around as the season progresses. It’s possible he’s been playing through a lingering shoulder issue, because it’s difficult to explain what exactly is going on otherwise. We’re not concerned long-term given his immense talent, but there are no easy answers at the moment.
Edwin Diaz

NYM Relief Pitcher #39

Mets placed RHP Edwin Díaz on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.

Well, this is definitely not something the Mets were planning a few hours ago, since Díaz’s replacement on the roster, Josh Walker, was just sent down earlier today. It’s nice to have this explanation for Díaz’s struggles, even if those struggles still seemed pretty fluky. Reed Garrett is probably the best bet in the Mets pen for now, though Adam Ottavino could get save chances as well.
Kerry Carpenter

DET Left Fielder #30

Tigers placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with lumbar spine inflammation.

Carpenter’s back has been bothering him since the weekend, though the Tigers made no mention of it until today. It’s a big loss for the Tigers, as Carpenter has been easily the team’s best hitter (.283/.342/.572 in 163 PA). They’ll probably give Mark Canha a fair amount of DH time in the coming weeks and use Matt Vierling pretty regularly in the outfield, with Andy Ibáñez picking up some extra starts at third.
Freddie Freeman

LAD First Baseman #5

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI, powering the Dodgers to a 5-2 extra-inning win over the Mets in the front-end of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

Freeman followed Mookie Betts’ go-ahead 10th-inning single with a majestic 383-foot missile to right field off Mets reliever Jorge López to give Los Angeles a commanding three-run lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. The 34-year-old also delivered a key run-scoring single in the eighth inning that jump-started the Dodgers’ late-inning rally. He hasn’t been an otherworldly force of nature at the dish, but still boasts an .855 OPS with six homers and one steal across 56 games.
Tylor Megill

NYM Starting Pitcher #38

Tylor Megill recorded nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.

Megill brought some of his best stuff of the season in the opening contest of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Citi Field, limiting Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup to just three hits and one walk over seven sharp frames. He threw seven different pitches, and also touched 98.1 mph on his four-seam fastball, in the longest scoreless outing of his career. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer with at least seven strikeouts in back-to-back starts since returning last week from the injured list and is in line for another home outing on Sunday against the Diamondbacks. The 28-year-old righty is absolutely worthy of at least a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats moving forward. It’ll be fascinating to see if he can keep this up.
Tarik Skubal

DET Starting Pitcher #29

Tuesday’s game between the Pirates and Tigers has been postponed due to inclement weather.

It’s fitting that only Mother Nature herself could prevent fantasy managers from watching a highly-anticipated pitcher’s duel on Tuesday evening between Detroit ace Tarik Skubal and Pirates electrifying rookie Jared Jones. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday instead with Skubal and Jones squaring off in the opening contest of the twin bill. It’ll be dynamic top prospect Paul Skenes taking the ball in the nightcap affair.
LaMonte Wade Jr.

SF First Baseman #31

Giants placed 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Wade has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain and is expected to miss roughly four weeks after suffering the ailment during Monday’s contest against the Phillies. The 30-year-old on-base machine, who leads the majors with a .470 on-base percentage this season, hurt his hamstring initially last Friday while stretching to grab Matt Chapman’s game-saving throw against the Mets. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until sometime in late June.
