Mo Williams (thumb) headed for second opinion
Jan. 2, 2013 - 8:25 AM ET

Mo Williams is headed to New York for a second opinion on his sprained thumb.

Second opinions are always a little scary because they suggest that the player or team didn't like the first opinion. We still don't know exactly what the damage is here, but we know that the thumb on Williams' shooting hand is at least severely sprained. We also know that he needed surgery on his right thumb in 2008 due to a torn ligament and is seeing the same doctor who performed that operation. Perhaps a timetable for return will be established following this appointment in New York.
