ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees are now "taking an aggressive approach" in negotiations with Russell Martin.
Olney said Thursday that the Red Sox were the favorites for Martin, and it was backed up earlier Friday by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. It sounds like the Yankees have decided to step up their efforts, though. Martin would have a better opportunity for playing time in New York, as Jorge Posada will move to DH and Jesus Montero would then likely stay in Triple-A for more seasoning. The Blue Jays and one other unidentified team also have offers out to Martin. Expect a decision to come soon.
