
According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, rival executives believe the Nationals might throw a "HUGE" number at free agent Cliff Lee.
The Nats are backed by a billionaire owner and employed the same "shock-and-awe" strategy to land outfielder Jayson Werth. Lee would probably rather pitch for either the Rangers or Yankees, but if the Nationals come calling with a seven-year offer worth something like $25 million per season, the players' union and his agent will pressure the lefty to accept. Heck, he might not need any persuading. This two-team hunt just grew to three.
