Patrick Reed posted a 7-under-par 35-30=65 at the open qualifier for this week's Travelers Championship, good for medalist honors and entry into the tournament proper.
Reed is turning the four-spotter into a personal Groundhog Day. At Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, Conn. today, he erased a lone bogey with two eagles (including at the par-4 13th hole) and four birdies. This is the fourth time this year he's successfully gained entry into a PGA TOUR event through open qualifying. After New Orleans and Wells Fargo, he medaled at the Monday qualifier for the Byron Nelson. Meanwhile, with six birdies against one bogey today, Tim Petrovic was the runner-up at 5-under 35-32=67. James Hazen (bogey-free, 4-under 34-34=68) and Michael Carbone (35-33=68) outlasted Brett Stegmaier (33-35=68) in a three-way playoff for the final two berths into the Travelers. The field at TPC River Highlands is now complete at 156.
