Payton has always been exasperated by Thomas' inability to shake injuries, and he's clearly sending a message here. It's quite possible that a raw but talented Ivory has staked out a major role in this backfield, but Thomas is too effective and too well-rounded to be sent to the pine. Let's see if Ivory can play well versus a capable run defense before taking a better player's job.
