Mets might already be set on Alderson as GM

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse speculates that the Mets have already decided on hiring Sandy Alderson to be their next general manager.

It sure seems that way. Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote Saturday that the "Mets' circumstances cry out for what Alderson offers" and that it's "case closed." Steve Popper of the Bergen Record spoke to a source over the weekend who called Alderson "the clear choice, maybe the only choice." The 62-year-old Alderson built great teams as an executive for the A's during the 80s and 90s, and he would probably do quite well with the Mets' $130 million payroll at his disposal. The Mets' higher-ups have continually promised "autonomy" for Omar Minaya's replacement.
