Cejka bogey-free; co-leading the Byron Nelson
May 17, 2012 - 6:35 PM ET

Alex Cejka spun a bogey-free, 5-under-par 34-31=65 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship, good for a share of the clubhouse lead.

This is a guy with a lot on the line this week. Cejka needs no worse than a two-way T5 to retain status via a Major Medical Extension, or he'll tumble into the conditional status category. Prior to last year's withdrawal at this event, he posted top 25s in 2009 and 2010, so he's a good fit for TPC Four Seasons Resort. He hit 14 greens in regulation today and buried five birdies, including conversions of 19'0", 10'10", 38'8" and 18'5" at the fifth, 13th, 15th and 17th holes, respectively.
