Butler signed amateur tryout with Canucks
Dustin Butler - G - Vancouver Canucks
April 17, 2013 - 1:20 PM ET

Dustin Butler inked an amateur tryout contract with the Vancouver Canucks to serve as the backup goaltender on Wednesday.

Cory Schneider missed the contest due to an illness. Butler has a 2.44 GAA and .903 save percentage in 17 games with the University of Calgary this season. "They were joking on the bench that if they scored on that last power play that I was going in," Butler said. "After they scored, they all started yelling at the coach to put me in. It was all right by me to sit and watch. The guys treated me really well and made me feel a part of things and it was a lot of fun. I was in the same situation a couple of years ago, but couldn't go because I was hurt at the time." Butler was able to get his stick signed by the entire team.
