Thorbjorn Olesen recorded a one-stroke margin of victory at the Silician Open for his first title on the European Tour.
The upstart Dane slept on a three-stroke, 54-hole lead, and then closed with a 3-under-par 33-36=69 to post 15-under 273 at Verdura Golf & Spa Resort. England's Chris Wood, also in pursuit of his first maiden triumph on the circuit, was bogey-free 9-under until swallowing a bogey on the par-4 17th hole due to missing the fairway and overshooting his approach. The Brit could manage only a par at the last. "It feels amazing," Olesen said afterwards. "I had three seconds last year, so to finally get my first win is great. I've been playing some great golf this year, without all parts of my game coming together. But this week my long and short game both came together, and it feels fantastic to finally get over the line."
