Jon Heyman is reporting that the Red Sox were the team that claimed Johnny Damon.
About $1.8 million of Damon's salary remains this season, so the Tigers may just let the Red Sox claim him to save the money. Damon does have an interesting clause in his contract that only allows him to be assigned to eight teams in baseball, and the Red Sox are not one of those teams. Boston could certainly use the outfielder with all of the injuries they have suffered through recently, but the contract clause - and moving Damon back to the OF for regular duty - are two significant hurdles that remain.
