
John Tavares tallied a pair of power-play goals in the third period to propel the Islanders to a 5-2 win over Washington on Saturday afternoon.
The Islanders and Capitals were tied 2-2 in the final frame when Tavares blew the game wide open with two goals 30 seconds apart. He has accumulated 16 markers and 29 points in 25 games. Frans Nielsen added a shorthanded tally later in the match, while Josh Baikey and Casey Cizikas also scored.
