Thomas Vanek scored a goal for the Sabres in a 3-2 shootout loss to New Jersey.
Vanek's power play marker was his 13th of the campaign and although his pace has slowed since he was the league's most dominant player over the season's first few weeks, he has still racked up 29 points in 22 contests. Brian Flynn also chipped in with his first career NHL goal in the losing effort.
