Nino Niederreiter scored two goals in New York's 8-5 loss against the Boston Bruins in rookie tournament action on Monday.
Niederreiter said he feels more comfortable this year and he plans to use this experience to better prepare himself for the Islanders main camp. He played with 2011 first-round pick Ryan Strome in the contest and coach Jack Capuano provided this critique of their performances: "I want to see him move his feet, get pucks to the net, get his body to the net, defend properly. The two of them [Strome and Niederreiter] made some good plays with the puck, but five-on-five, in all three zones, there's some work that needs to be done." Niederreiter is projected to make the big club out of training camp, but it sounds like he may have to kick some youngster habits to ensure he plays regularly in the NHL this year. Still, he has the potential to be a top-six forward and should be on everyone's radar in keeper leagues.
