The Hurricanes announced Monday that Cam Ward will be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks because of a third-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL).
He won't need to undergo surgery, which may be the only silver lining in this. Look for Carolina to recall Justin Peters, who could battle Dan Ellis for playing time, during Ward's absence. Ward has posted a 9-6-1 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.84 GAA this campaign.
