Erik Gudbranson believes his check on Evgeni Malkin that led to the Penguin star's injury was legal.
Gudbranson, who faced immediate retaliation by James Neal, maintained that the check was a typical one in a game and within the rules. "I just finished my check," Gudbranson said. "You never want to see a guy go down, and he is in a vulnerable position. But you can't pass up a hit like that. You never know, he could go around the net and he could get a back-door pass. It's unfortunate he got hurt on the play, but it's one I would take every time." The officials seemed to agree with Gudbranson as he was not called for a penalty on the play.
