Report: Westbrook-to-Cards deal is close
Jake Westbrook - S - Cleveland Indians
July 31, 2010 - 11:35 AM ET

The Indians are close to trading Jake Westbrook to the Cardinals, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes.

The wheels have been steadily in motion on this deal since Friday. Westbrook is reportedly the Cardinals' No. 1 target, but the fact that he would be due $2 million from the Indians if he was traded has been a sticking point. It sounds like the two sides are about to come to a compromise, though. Westbrook is currently listed as Cleveland's starter for Saturday's afternoon game and Jeff Suppan, who Westbrook would replace in the rotation, is slated to start for the Cardinals Saturday evening. However, it seems very unlikely Westbrook would arrive in St. Louis early enough to take the ball for St. Louis considering a deal isn't even complete yet.
