Perez/Castillo for Big Z "never had chance"
July 31, 2010 - 11:10 AM ET

The proposed trade of Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo for Carlos Zambrano "never had a chance," according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The Mets made the offer, but the Cubs rejected it, thinking that they should be able to re-build Zambrano's value over the final two months of the season. Rosenthal says that Zambrano will not be traded Saturday. Big Z is still owed over $60 million on a deal that could run through 2013, but he's still a capable pitcher despite this year's struggles. It sounds like the Cubs are willing to deal with his temper tantrums and hope he can regain his stuff.
