Dallas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan was frustrated over his team's slow start on Wednesday.
Dallas was outscored 4-1 in the first period. "I don't know if we weren't ready as much as we weren't ready to compete," Gulutzan said. "We were soft in the beginning, soft with our sticks, soft with our play. We weren't ready. I thought (the Flames) played a solid game, but I didn't think they came guns a'blazin'. I thought we were just soft." Wednesday's showing was the exception rather than the rule for Dallas. They have outscored their opponents 12-9 over the first 20 minutes of their contests this season. If anything, it's typically the second period where they run into problems.
