Jarmo Kekalainen has been officially selected as the Columbus Blue Jackets' new General Manager.
The team fired former GM Scott Howson Tuesday night. Kekalainen previously served as the St. Louis Blues' director of amateur scouting and Ottawa Senators' player personnel director. During his tenure with both squads, Kekalainen saw some very prominent players get drafted, including Marian Hossa, Martin Havlat, Jason Spezza, and Alex Pietrangelo. His experience when it comes to selecting top-end talent might pay immediate dividends for the Blue Jackets, who currently have three first-round picks lined up for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
