Russia's Sport Express is reporting that the KHL's SKA St. Petersburg is close to signing Ilya Kovalchuk.
Take this report with a grain of salt, but it certainly wouldn't shock us if Kovalchuk ended up bolting for the KHL. He might have priced himself out of the NHL, as the competition for him has been sparse. It's looking more and more like Kovalchuk's options have been narrowed down to the KHL, the New Jersey Devils, and the New York Islanders. The Devils have reportedly offered Kovalchuk a seven-year/$60 million deal. We'll keep you posted.
