Red Wings place Joey MacDonald on waivers

The Detroit Red Wings decided to place goalie Joey MacDonald on waivers on Saturday.
The netminder is out of the backup mix while Jonas Gustavsson is on the injured reserve and Petr Mrazek won convincingly in his first NHL start on Feb. 7. MacDonald hasn't played in an NHL game yet in 2013 and might just need to do it for another team if that happens.
