Capitals taking too many penalties so far
Adam Oates - C - Washington Capitals
Feb. 1, 2013 - 11:55 AM ET

The Washington Capitals committed eight more penalties Thursday night, bringing their season total to a whopping 38.

The 38 penalties is the second-most in the league behind only Colorado, which is made worse by the fact that the Capitals have 23rd-ranked penalty kill at the moment. With the Caps spending so much time killing penalties, their star offensive players have struggled to see consistent ice time which is hurting their growth in Adam Oates' new, aggressive system. It's something Oates will have to correct or else the one-win Capitals could end up out of the playoff race by the end of February.
