Yzerman wants to sign Stamkos to an extension

One of new Lightning GM Steve Yzerman's top priorities will be inking Steven Stamkos to a contract extension.
"We've got to start the discussion, yes," Yzerman said. "It's in the back of my mind. I realize that's there. It is something absolutely we'll want to prepare for and get the discussion going right away." The two sides aren't allowed to begin negotiations until Stamkos enters the last year of his entry-level contract on July 1st. Stamkos is a former first overall pick who scored 51 goals and 95 points in 82 games this season. We'll keep you posted.
