Michael Neuvirth backs an uplifting defeat
Michal Neuvirth - G - Washington Capitals
Jan. 26, 2013 - 11:35 AM ET

Michael Neuvirth was solid in net for the Capitals against the Devils on Friday night, despite losing 3-2 in overtime.

He made 32 saves, eight coming in overtime. "It wasn't easy game, you know. I didn't have a lot of work in the first period," Neuvirth said. "The only good scoring chance they had, they scored. But I battled hard and, after I made a couple of big saves, I settled down and played my game." It's a performance that drew notice from coach Adam Oates and probably gives him the upper hand in the Caps' goalie battle. "He really gave us a chance," Oates said. "And throughout the whole game, we got behind and we didn't crumble today. It was great."
