Montreal to cut ties with three defensemen
Brent Sopel - D - Montreal Canadiens
June 1, 2011 - 9:15 AM ET

Brent Sopel isn't projected to be retained by the Montreal Canadiens this summer.

That would make the 34-year-old blueliner an unrestricted free agent on July 1. In 71 games with the Canadiens and Atlanta Thrashers during the 2010-11 campaign, Sopel posted seven points and a plus-6 rating. It is being speculated that Montreal will allow Paul Mara and Alexandre Picard to walk away as well. Stay tuned to see what happens.
