Alex Ovechkin critical of top line's opener
Alex Ovechkin - W - Washington Capitals
Jan. 22, 2013 - 11:50 AM ET

Alex Ovechkin was critical of how the top line of the Capitals performed in the team's regular season opening loss to Tampa Bay.

"We make some stupid plays out there sometimes in neutral zone and offensive zone," said Ovechkin, who played with Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson. "If you watch the whole game, we have only a couple rushes and we never stop in their zone. We never play [in] their zone. It's blame on us." The trio didn't post a point in Washington's 6-3 loss and they ended up with a combined eight shots and a minus-3 rating. They will look to put forth a better effort in their home opener on Tuesday night versus Winnipeg.
