RB C.J. Spiller, Bills (9th)
A high, high pick for a guy who doesn't run between the tackles. Love his athletic ability and skills, but he's Reggie Bush — he's not a feature back. The Bills need more than just a change-up at the position.
RB Ryan Mathews, Chargers (12th)
The only speed feature back in the draft. So the Chargers overspent. I like Mathews; terrific balance and vision. But he's a second- round pick in just about any other draft.
RB Jahvid Best, Lions (30th)
See a common thread here? It's a bad year for running backs, and the Lions jumped into the end of the first round for a 5-10, 195-pound (and that's really generous) change-up with a history of injuries — and as important, getting lost in big games.
DT Tyson Alualu, Jaguars (10th)
DE Jason Pierre-Paul, Giants (15th)
Let me just say this one more time: How in the world do you use the 15th overall pick on a guy who had seven career starts in Division I football? Mind-boggling.
DT Terrence Cody, Ravens (57th)
If the Ravens ever get Cody in shape, it's a great pick. But no one — not even Alabama coach Nick Saban — has been able to get the big fella in great shape (see: where he can play more than 20 plays at a high level).
PFT: Tom Brady says the loss of Wes Welker didn’t come as a surprise because Brady has been around long enough to know that there are no safe jobs in the NFL.
