Connor Murphy (knee) is out for the year
Connor Murphy - D - Phoenix Coyotes
Jan. 10, 2013 - 8:45 PM ET

Coyotes prospect Connor Murphy will miss the rest of the season following a knee injury he suffered at the World Junior Championship.

"First and foremost our hearts go out to Connor," said Sarnia GM Jacques Beaulieu in a statement. "This is a player who does everything the right way and has such a bright future in this game. He is in excellent hands with the Phoenix medical staff who will take the lead with his procedure and rehab." The Coyotes had Murphy undergo an MRI on Wednesday and it revealed a lateral meniscus tear causing his knee to lock, which will require surgery to repair. It's doubtful he would've landed an NHL spot for this season and it's uncertain if he would've been a target for training camp, but he won't be available to do either now. Murphy won gold for the United States at the tournament and he produced 18 points in 33 games this OHL campaign with the Sting.
