Stajan views new season as fresh start
Matthew Stajan - C - Calgary Flames
Jan. 10, 2013 - 9:55 AM ET

Matthew Stajan sees this upcoming season as a fresh start for him.

Stajan needs one after scoring just eight goals and 18 points in 61 games last season. "The way things have gone haven't been exactly the way I thought it would go," Stajan said. But that's behind us. That's the past. A new coach comes in now, and everybody's got to gain his trust, play the system and fall into place where he sees you fit. As a player, I've always tried to do that and I'm eager to get going. We've got to get up to speed on systems and there's a lot to learn along the way, but I'm going to do what the coaches ask of me. I'm in good shape and ready to battle." Stajan is certainly worth keeping an eye on, but don't draft him in standard leagues. It's hard to envision him earning a top-six spot out of camp, but he might get an opportunity if someone else gets hurts or slumps early on.
