Boyd Gordon hurt in practice, status unclear
Boyd Gordon - C - Phoenix Coyotes
Jan. 8, 2013 - 10:00 AM ET

Center Boyd Gordon collided with center Kyle Chipchura early in a workout session for the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday.

The pair seemed to inadvertently run into each other as Gordon was turning and Chipchura was skating straight ahead. Gordon fell to the ice and had to be helped by teammates to the bench. He sat there for a few minutes before gingerly skating off the ice. Gordon's status is unclear, and since the CBA is not official, the Coyotes can't offer medical assistance. The team's equipment staff is allowed to help out with the skates, and that's how word of the injury floated back to general manager Don Maloney. "I know he was going to get looked at it, but I don't know any more than that," Maloney said. If Gordon isn't ready to go for camp, the Coyotes will recall an extra forward from their American Hockey League affiliate.
