LOWELL, Mass. - Say it ain't so: The Lowell Spinners, a Class-A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, planning to honor the New York Yankees with a series of bobbleheads?
The team says it feels remorse over past promotions that made fun of the Yankees. So this year it will commemorate great Yankees moments with bobbleheads depicting Yankees players Bucky Dent, Derek Jeter, Aaron Boone, Thurman Munson and Robinson Cano.
Relax, Red Sox fans: The release was sent out on April Fool's Day.
A short-season farm club populated largely with recent draft picks, Lowell has held wacky promotions such as "Birth Night," in which pregnant women were admitted free and the first to give birth was given a year's supply of diapers. The Spinners Jack Kerouac bobblehead is in the baseball hall of fame.
Lowell's Yankee Elimination promotion offered little league teams in the area free Spinners jerseys if they turned in their Yankees ones.
