Capitals goaltenders should be able to hit the ground running once the season starts, if a deal can be reached within the week.
Braden Holtby (AHL) and Michal Neuvirth (Czech League) have both been playing during the lockout. "Obviously, they're going to be in game shape, so that has to be a good thing," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "I don't think there's any perfect formula, but the fact both of those guys have been playing is good." Holtby was just named the AHL's Goaltender of the Month for December, and he has a 2.15 goals-against average and .932 save percentage on the year. Neuvrith has posted a 2.46 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in 23 games for Sparta Praha.
