Canada's Griffin Reinhart suspended 4 games
Griffin Reinhart - D - New York Islanders
Jan. 4, 2013 - 11:35 AM ET

Canadian defenseman Griffin Reinhart was suspended four games for a high stick on Team USA's Vince Trochek.

He will miss the bronze-medal game against Russia, plus three more tilts. The Islanders' and Panthers' prospects were tangled up while fighting for the puck and Reinhart struck Trochek in the head while on his knees. The infraction only warranted a two-minute penalty and Trochek was not hurt, but the IIHF handed out the harshest penalty ever in world junior hockey tournament history, saying Reinhart "delivered a two-handed slash to the head that was "very careless, dangerous and avoidable." Team Canada general manager Scott Salmond was "surprised, shocked" over the ruling.
