Nathan (elbow) to play catch on Saturday
Joe Nathan - R - Minnesota Twins
March 15, 2010 - 12:40 PM ET

Joe Nathan (elbow) said he'll play catch Saturday and give his right elbow a "vigorous test" to determine if he needs Tommy John surgery.

Nathan has discussed the improbable scenario of rehabbing his torn ulnar collateral ligament, but it looks like he's ramping up the timeline on his decision. Of course, if he opts for surgery, he'll miss the entire 2010 season and part of 2011, as well. Jon Rauch is the heavy favorite for ninth-inning duties in Minnesota, although manager Ron Gardenhire seems to be keeping an open mind as far as that is concerned.
