Jon Gillies - G - Calgary Flames
Dec. 13, 2012 - 10:20 AM ET

Calgary Flames prospect Jon Gillies has earned plenty of accolades already this season with Providence College.

He has been named Hockey East's rookie of the week and defensive player of the week two times apiece. He was also earned the conference's rookie of the month honor for October. "Usually with freshmen, you see ups and downs," said coach Nate Leaman. "But Jon's been the most consistent player on our team overall. It's real impressive what he's done to this point." Gillies has posted a 1.95 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage in 15 games this campaign. His successful college start earned him a spot on Team USA's selection camp for the World Junior Championship, where he will compete for the number one job with OHL goalies John Gibson and Garret Sparks. The Flames chose Gillies with the 75th overall pick of the 2012 draft.
