The professional tryout contract of Dan Ellis with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers expired after Tuesday night's game.
However, coach Jeff Daniels made it known before the match that the team planned to retain the services of the veteran netminder. "It'll be taken care of in the next few days," he said. It's unclear if the Checkers will give him another 25-day tryout or if he'll get an AHL deal that will carry him through the remainder of the season. Ellis has posed six wins, with a .927 save percentage and a 2.43 goals-against average in 13 appearances in the crease this campaign, while sharing time with Justin Peters.
