Spencer Abbott helps Marlies score 5-4 win
Spencer Abbott - C - Toronto Maple Leafs
Dec. 3, 2012 - 12:10 PM ET

Spencer Abbott registered three assists for the Toronto Marlies on Sunday to help the team record a 5-4 win over Lake Erie.

He has notched one goal and eight helpers in six appearances this season. "I'm comfortable with his skill level (41 assists and 62 points with Maine in 2011-12)," said coach Dallas Eakins. "But when putting a lineup together you just don't throw all your skill in there. You have guys who kill penalties, play a checking role and play power play. It has been hard to work him in every night. The first thing (Abbott) wants to do is separate himself from the young players and then the regular players. (But) that's part of the process of being a rookie." The AHL has a surplus of players this campaign due to the NHL lockout, so Abbott has been forced to spend some time in the press box.
