A Reds source told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer Thursday evening that the Reds have "zero" interest in Gary Matthews Jr.
ESPN.com's Buster Olney said earlier that the Reds are tracking Matthews Jr., just in case he fails to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and is let go. Fay's source listed five outfielders that the Reds would rather have, though, so it sounds like the Olney rumor has no legs. Matthews Jr., 36 this season, posted a measly 697 OPS in 316 at-bats for Anaheim last season.
