Power rankings: Johnson is back on top

No. 48 has a two-week winning streak heading into Atlanta's race

While the majority of Jimmie Johnson's success normally comes at the end of the season, this year he's come out strong at the start.

We have a new leader — and it should come as no surprise that Jimmie Johnson has replaced Kevin Harvick atop the Sporting News Power Poll after Johnson's second consecutive win. We also have two new faces in the top 10: Joey Logano at seventh and Tony Stewart at ninth. The weekly power poll is a collaboration of Sporting News and Rowdy.com.

1. Jimmie Johnson (last week: 3rd)
Two in a row has everyone thinking five in a row.

2. Kevin Harvick (1st)
If not for Johnson, Harvick would be the one with two straight wins. But the points lead isn't a bad consolation prize.

3. Mark Martin (6th)
Has yet to look like a race winner, but quietly carding top fives will make 2010 a lot easier than last year—and the best is yet to come.

4. Clint Bowyer (2nd)
Already has led more laps this year (42) than last (41) and is one of four drivers with top 10s in each of the first three races.

5. Matt Kenseth (7th)
If Kenseth finishes in the top 10 at Atlanta, he will have his longest streak of top 10s (four) since he strung together six in May-June 2008.

6. Jeff Burton (4th)
All three RCR cars finishing in the top 11 at Las Vegas? That move to three teams appears to have helped.

7. Joey Logano (12th)
Nearly beat out Kenseth for his second straight top five and is proving he'll be a part of the story on intermediate tracks all season.

8. Greg Biffle (5th)
Shown enough speed to be a Chaser, not enough to be a championship contender.

9. Tony Stewart (13th)
Rallied from disappointing Daytona with top-10 finishes at Fontana and Las Vegas. Still short of the standard he set last year.

10. Carl Edwards (10th)
After greeting new baby Anne on Wednesday, Edwards flew to Las Vegas, where he finished 12th.

11. Jeff Gordon (17th)
The dominant driver at Vegas, Gordon led 219 of 267 laps only to be derailed by a two-tire call on the final pit stop. But the No. 24 Chevy hadn't been THAT strong in ages.

12. David Reutimann (11th)
He's Mr. Top 15. If wants to make the Chase, he needs to become Mr. Top 10.

13. Kyle Busch (15th)
Settling into mediocrity? In six of his past seven races Busch has finished between 10th and 16th. In the 32 before that he had only four such finishes.

14. Kurt Busch (9th)
Perhaps the fact Penske is the only Dodge team on the circuit isn't so great after all.

15. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (20th)
Despite a fourth-place qualifying effort at Las Vegas, Earnhardt was off the pace of his three Hendrick teammates once the race started.

16. Jamie McMurray (8th)
After fencing his teammate on Lap 93, McMurray drew fire from the Montoya camp, which questioned whether it was McMurray or Ronald McDonald driving the car.

17. Kasey Kahne (21st)
Not only did Kahne score his first top 10 of the year, he finally finished better than 30th.

18. Paul Menard (23rd)
For the first time in his Cup career, Menard has recorded three top 20s in a row.

19. Scott Speed (19th)
Has already led as many laps in 2010 as he did all of last year.

20. Denny Hamlin (18th)
Surprise stat of the week: He and Kyle Busch have no top 10s between them, and second-year man Logano has two.

21. Brian Vickers (16th)
Bad sign: Vickers has not had a top-10 finish since his incredible rush to make the Chase in 2009. That's 13 straight races.

22. Juan Pablo Montoya (14th)
When your 2010 average finish is worse then Travis Kavpil's, it doesn't matter whose fault it is.

23. Martin Truex Jr. (22nd)
Running 20th at Vegas while his teammate David Reutimann runs 13th is not very encouraging.

24. David Ragan (24th)
You can almost bank on him running about 10 spots behind his three teammates.

25. Regan Smith (NR)
The 2008 Rookie of the Year is back, but for how long?  Atlanta is his third-worst track based on average finish.
