Canceled season would hurt aging Canucks
Alain Vigneault - C - Vancouver Canucks
Nov. 21, 2012 - 11:25 AM ET

Losing the 2012-13 campaign might be particularly hard on the Vancouver Canucks.

The Canucks have been a serious contender for the better part of a decade now, but they're getting older and they might find themselves in a transitional period in the not too distant future. Dan Hamhuis will turn 30 soon, making him the ninth player on their roster to reach or surpass that milestone. The Sedin teams turned 32 in September and Alexandre Burrows will join them in April. Their key players aren't out of their prime yet and the trading Roberto Luongo for one or more young players, while also clearing the path for 26-year-old goaltender Cory Schneider, will help. However, this group of Canucks will only have so many chances to win the Stanley Cup and 2012-13 represents one of their best remaining opportunities.
