Jesse Joensuu is projected to miss the next two months after suffering a hand injury on Saturday while playing for Assat in Finland's top league.
He has been tearing up the SM-liiga with 11 goals and 24 points in 20 games this season. Joensuu will head into Tuesday's action in sixth place among the league's leading scorers. He played in the Swedish Elite League last season and hasn't played with the Islanders since the 2010-11 campaign. Joensuu received a one-year, one-way deal with New York back in June, so he's expected to return to the NHL once the lockout is over.
