Schefter also added that he thinks McLaurin is interested in earning more than DK Metcalf, who is set to earn about $33 million AAV on the new contract he signed with the Steelers. McLaurin reported to Commanders camp over the weekend and is effectively staging a hold-in that is being reported as an ankle injury. The distance between McLaurin and the Commanders in negotiations could be bridged in the coming days after reports surfaced that the Broncos are nearing an extension with Courtland Sutton, who had similar numbers to McLaurin last season and will also be turning 30 shortly after the start of the season. Schefter said he does not believe the Commanders have any interest in trading McLaurin but added, “We’ll see if anything changes over time.” While there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight to this negotiation, it would not be surprising if Sutton’s new deal moves things closer to the finish line for McLaurin and the Commanders.

We don’t know much about Gonzalez’s injury other than the third-year corner was seen limping off the field under his own power after covering Stefon Diggs in 11-on-11 drills. We may learn more about his injury later in the day, but Gonzalez is a player they can ill-afford to lose. Gonzalez earned a PFF coverage grade of 78.2 last season while appearing on 978 defensive snaps.

A calf injury sidelined Jennings throughout the 49ers’ mandatory minicamp in June. It is unknown whether this is an aggravation or a new injury altogether. Either way, it’s not good. Soft tissue strains are susceptible to recurrences and the 49ers’ receiving corps has multiple availability concerns aside from Jennings. Ricky Pearsall’s fantasy stock would stand to benefit if this were to be a long-term concern.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter characterized Pickett as “coming off a strong couple of practices.” The current plan is to re-evaluate the injury later this week. Hopefully, Pickett can return in time to compete with Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in preseason play. A long-term injury would seem to put Flacco in the driver’s seat to open the season as the starting quarterback.

While Micah Parsons continues to wait for what is expected to be a record-setting deal, the Cowboys do their part to take care of Ferguson. The fourth-year tight end will get $30 million in guaranteed money on his new contract and will now be locked in with the Cowboys through the 2029 season. Ferguson broke out for 71-761-5 in 2023, but struggled to the tune of 49-494-0 last season thanks to injuries of his own and Dak Prescott’s season-ending hamstring injury. With both Prescott and Ferguson healthy to start training camp, Ferguson should be on track for a nice bounce-back season. He’ll project as a fringe TE1/TE2 this upcoming fantasy season.

McLaurin is officially on the PUP list due to an ankle injury that many expect can be cured with a contract extension. The overwhelming belief around the league is that McLaurin’s injury is his way of staging a hold-in as he continues to push for a long-term extension. Instead of being fined $50k a day for not reporting to camp, McLaurin will now work off to the side with trainers while “rehabbing” his injury, putting added pressure on the front office to get a deal done. Head coach Dan Quinn acknowledged on Sunday that a deal has not yet been agreed to, but said the team will continue to work with McLaurin’s agent to get a deal done. McLaurin is in the final year of his current contract, which has no guaranteed money remaining. After going for 82-1,096-13 last season, there are reports that the veteran receiver is looking for top-10 WR money for what will likely be the last big extension of his career. It’s a promising development in the story, but we wouldn’t expect McLaurin to be on the field without a deal. Things continue to be wait-and-see here.

McVay stated that the team is not expecting Stafford to miss more than the first portion of camp, indicating they believe he will be back on the practice field in short order. “I don’t have any reason to be concerned,” McVay added later in the press conference with media following practice Saturday. Stafford has been sidelined at the beginning of camp with back soreness, something that doesn’t seem to be overly serious for the 37-year-old quarterback even though his initial timeline for return to team activities has now been prolonged.

Burks came down awkwardly following a reception in camp Saturday, with initial testing indicating a broken collarbone. The injury is highly likely to sideline him for the start of the regular season. The Titans brought in a slew of pass-catching help this offseason, including wide receiver Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson, both of whom were projected to start over the former first-round receiver come September. This injury could be the proverbial nail in the coffin for the once-promising prospect following a torn ACL suffered in Week 5 of the 2024 season.

Schultz adds that the goal is for Mixon to be ready for Week 1, but missing most, if not all, of camp and preseason is not ideal for Mixon. Mixon’s timeline has continued to be pushed back after initial reports stated he would be ready for camp, with follow-on reports stating he would “be ready at some point during training camp.” The fact that the injury is worse than was initially reported should raise some red flags for fantasy managers as we enter primetime draft season. Nick Chubb would presumably be the next man up in the Houston backfield should Mixon’s absence carry over into the regular season.
